Alfresco is the first open source enterprise-scale content management system that includes a modern content repository, an out-of-the-box portal framework for managing and using content designed to work with standard portals, and a groundbreaking Common Internet File System (CIFS) interface that provides Microsoft Windows file system compatibility. But Alfresco lacks an integrated Enterprise Report Management archiving capability. FileMark SMARTi COLD/ERM for Alfresco provides this key missing functionality. The host computer in your organization generates print output - usually with forms (carriage) control that instructs the printer how to format the pages. SMARTi COLD/ERM captures, indexes and archives prints streams for storage in the Alfresco ECM system. This allows for the definition of the layout of computer-generated documents, reports, statements and invoices. SMARTi uses templates and form overlays to mimic the exact layout of each report document. SMARTi also intelligently extracts information from the print file. This index data is used to locate the documents by the user population. The form overlay feature is can also be used to allow documents to be viewed as they would appear on pre-printed forms. SMARTi COLD for Alfresco converts captured reports into Searchable PDF format and transfers them into Alfresco Document Spaces. Extracted indexes are mapped into Alfresco's Advanced Search fields and Alfresco's Full Text Search engine automatically indexes every word on every page of each report. SMARTi COLD for Alfresco is written in Java and runs on Apache/Tomcat open source web servers.
