WinQuota is disk quota management software that has been designed for regular usage on any types of servers, especially on servers with large amount of files, such as file servers, news and mail servers.

WinQuota allows managing directories and files size with blocking any operations that enlarge quota limits. WinQuota works fully automatically and administrator intervention is not required to unlock/solve quota overflow.

WinQuota offers a possibility to set quota limitations for specified directories and files, including subdirectories, inner mount points, system and sparse files. Disk quota settings can not be exhausted by any kind of operation, including file moving, renaming, copying and other.

WinQuota also enables to set soft quotas. This kind of quota can be exceeded but in this case Administrator will receive a log event with user and quota information. In addition there is a possibility to determine custom scripts and 3rd party programs that can be used as “soft” quota excess triggers. All the WinQuota settings can be managed as via GUI as using command line tools in the UNIX style.

WinQuota works with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 at Intel x86 and AMD64/EM64T platforms; it supports Windows cluster solutions and works well in multi-domain environment with full support of trustee relationships in domains.

With the WinQuota software User can easily integrate his own solutions with quota management as WinQuota provides application programming interface (API) compatible with Microsoft COM standard.


WinQuota is good tool, it will help you to limit folders individually. With WinQuota, you can specify both hard limits (users cannot reach more space) and soft limits (once soft limits are reached, the notifications are started so your administrators and/or users will know such folder is near to be full) for every folder and every user individually. WinQuota works together with standard Windows quotas, so you don't need to reassign all quotas at once. You can add folders as it needs step by step. Of course, WinQuota supports ability to limit space (for each folder) to specific users or groups, so you can easily let your power users / administrators more space in the same folder as ordinal users. And be sure WinQuota works in real-time, by controlling every file operation at time it performed, so you don't need to provide such periodical checks of your drives.

Additionally, WinQuota has rich possibilities to manage
- exclude lists. Here you can specify folders, exact files, files of certain types (limited to such folder of course) to not be counted in quotas (for example, there are log files).
- rich notifications. With provided scripts, you can handle notifications via email, SMS and so on. As there are simple VBScript files, you can extend it as you need, or add your notifications (for example to place all incidents into database).
- special accounts that involved in all quotas automatically. For example, you have such archiving tool running periodically. By adding specific user (being used to start this service) as manager' account, you'll automatically grows or shrink user quotas if it will be touched.
- special backup tools. By adding program as backup tool, you'll inform WinQuota any activity of this process will be ignored in quota accounting.
- Blocked extensions. For your server, you can define certain types of files that ain't allowed (like media content). So, all files with extensions you want, will not be easily added to your server. Of course you can specify only specific folders and users for this feature, as for all other parts of WinQuota.

- And WinQuota exposes COM API; so you can easy manage quotas via your scripts (examples are included).
